Our partner is Rahayu Abd Ghani (profile in PDF). Having graduated
from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne with a
Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree in 1996 and upon
completing her Certificate in Legal Practice and being called
to the Malaysian Bar in 1999, Rahayu started her practice
in Messrs L.Y. Leong & Partners, Subang Jaya where she
gained experience specialising in ship financing, admiralty and
insurance cases. She has been exposed to a full range of
shipping, admiralty and insurance cases both contentious
and non-contentious. She also handles civil and commercial
cases.
Rahayu's talent and reputation as a Shipping Specialist
marks out as the natural Malaysian partner for the JTJB
global network. Apart from the above, she also handles real
property transactions and drafting of corporate
agreements and other documentations.
Partner David Ng (profile in PDF) graduated with honours from the University of London in 1996 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1999. Following his call, he worked as a Legal Officer/Insurance Adjuster at Crawford & Company Adjusters, gaining valuable insight into the insurance industry. He resumed practice as an associate in Messrs Azim Tunku Farik & Wong in the Insurance Department. David also had a stint in Singapore with an insurance adjusting/marine survey company who were then Lloyd's Agent.
As a former adjuster currently in legal practice, his experiences encompass both investigative fieldwork and courtroom litigation. He has acted on behalf of insurers, policyholders and recovery agents in matters
such as
marine cargo surveys,
insurance claims investigation / adjusting,
logistic disputes,
crewmen injury claims,
ship management contracts,
charterparty disputes and
maritime lien.
In the course of his career, David has also handled construction, family, and commercial cases amongst others.
David has served on the CLE sub-committee of the Selangor Bar and was a Selangor Legal Aid Centre volunteer. He is a voracious reader and an avid runner.
Our Associate, Ang Lay Ling (“Ang”) (profile in PDF) graduated from the University of London with a Bachelor of Laws Honours Degree. Ang joined W.E. Cox Recoveries (M) Sdn Bhd as a Legal Officer (Marine Recovery) where Ang was given the opportunity and exposure of liasing with the Insurers, Carriers (Vessels/Shipowner), Protection & Indemnity Club (“P & I Club”), Port Authorities and Shippers as well as all the relevant parties involved in the carriage/transit of the goods. Hence, this enables her to have the depth of understanding of the Insurance claims based on the Marine Cargo Survey Report by the respective adjusters and to enhance her negotiation skills in respect of the settlement proposals taking into account inter alia the terms and conditions of the Carriage, Exclusion Clauses, Limitation Period (if any) and the claims. Ang as a law practitioner currently handles all aspects of commercial litigation including Shipping and Admiralty.
The office is ably and efficiently administered by Alan Lim. Alan is well qualified to manage the office as he holds a Bachelor of Business from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia. Alan originally hailed from Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. He is married and settled in Kuala Lumpur. He likes to travel and indulge in techno-gadgets.
